Education Stimulus Funding The 2009 economic stimulus package includes over $100 billion for retaining teachers and improving the nation’s overall education system. The Department of Education has released estimates of how big the Education Stimulus Funding will be and as well how big a piece of that stimulating education pie each state will get. "The single best way to stimulate the economy -- short-term and long-term—is to keep teachers teaching and keep kids learning," said Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in an address announcing the state-by-state Title I education funding table. "States are hurting, and schools across America are facing catastrophic cuts. We need to invest this money quickly, thoughtfully and transparently to protect kids, create jobs and drive reforms." Funds included in the State tables are for programs that allocate funds to States using statutory formulas. The totals do not reflect all Department of Education funds that a State receives. States and other entities may also receive Department funds awarded on a competitive basis. These tables also include, for each State, financial support from selected student aid programs that provide funds to the postsecondary institutions that students attend. Also shown for each State is the dollar amount of new federally supported loans made to students attending postsecondary institutions located in the State. Each of the State tables by State shows subtotals for:
