Autodesk is releasing AutoCAD for Mac and a free mobile application called AutoCAD WS for Apple’s iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. AutoCAD WS is a file reader and editor for DWG drawings. This free app will make it easier for architects and engineers to share and collaborate on files created by either the PC or the new Mac version. Design firms can now bring their iOS device to customer sites instead of their paper drawings.

Why Mac? Why Now? In recent years, Apple has become one of the most valuable technology companies in the world. With their integrated ecosystem and vision including the iPad, iPhone, iPod and the new Apple TV, Apple has created customer loyalty and a user experience, unmatched in the industry. However, it is the revival of the Macintosh, and the aforementioned strategy which has led Autodesk to invest resources needed to re-introduce AutoCAD for the Mac to the world. What Apple has accomplished since the mid 1990’s, when they were on the verge of collapse is nothing short of miraculous in the world of business. Autodesk has recognized the demand for Apple products and addressed these needs.
