The good people over at Unity are currently developing a new curriculum for learning their software. Currently, the Unity learning material is broken up into a handful of projects that come with tutorial documents, which walk you through the ins and outs of Unity and game design. The Unity team is reworking their learning tutorials and will be providing a new system that caters to your skill level and topics that you are interested in.

The people in charge of the new curriculum wanted to create a non-linear learning environment. The current Unity tutorials work in a linear fashion where you accomplish one task and move on to the next. The new Unity curriculum will allow you to explore concepts based on your own understanding and skill level. Much of the content will be focusing on C# and Javascript. Boo will not be mentioned much and there will be more C# content than Javascript.

Unity will also be integrating the new content with your Unity developer network login information. This will allow you to keep track of your learning progress, resume watching content, etc. This will also allow the Unity team to track what modules you work with so they can better develop relevant content in the future.

This is a welcome addition to Unity especially for educators. The current Unity learning material is a bit limited. The current material is good and definitely helps one to learn Unity, but it sounds like the new curriculum they are coming up with is going to be far more comprehensive. This will help engage not only students but also educators.

The Unity team is currently working on the content and they hope to have the first series done in the next couple of months. Unity recommends watching their blog or their twitter feed to keep up-to-date on this development. Our very own Studica blog will stay up-to-date on this as well. Unity products are available to students, teachers and schools at academic discounts – click here to learn more.
