Studica Limited hosted their annual summer CAD workshop at McMaster University, utilizing the Engineering Technology Building and the state of the art Elliptical Computer Lab.

Ontario's Digital Steam WorkshopThe environment facilitated a multitude of discussion topics.  Many of these were directly related to the engineering examples found in the lab and in the ETB.  Other topics included Autodesk’s Digital STEAM Curriculum, Autodesk Inventor and Robotics design, and the parametric modeling of CO2 and Slot car bodies.

Autodesk’s Digital STEAM Workshop was a success, and showed the participants the scope and potential of this free Autodesk Curriculum.  Autodesk’s Digital STEAM Curriculum is a project based teaching tool which allows teachers to focus on the instruction of key concepts.  Key concepts covered in today’s workshop included design for Urban Farming, Urban Planning and Transit infrastructure, and Thermal cooling properties involved in the design of structures.

Autodesk Digital Steam WorkshopStudents and teachers can utilize the Videos, Lessons Plans, Data Sets, and 3D Interactive Viewers to prepare their projects, develop their own designs, and learn core skills and concepts.  This Curriculum is an excellent way to prepare for Autodesk Certification.  The Teachers that attended today received a free Autodesk Certification Exam Voucher from Certiport for participating.

Robotics was also a topic that garnered interest.  Fischertechnik Designs were modeled in Autodesk Inventor and the teachers were shown the full library of Fischertechnik parts that have been modeled for Inventor.  This is a very useful tool for the Skills Ontario Virtual Robotics competition as well as in robotics system designs.

Finally Derek demonstrated his designs for Slot Cars and CO2 Car bodies.  Utilizing Alias Design, Derek showed the capabilities of Inventor in the sketching, designing, and modeling of all types of car bodies.  Teachers were impressed by the simplicity of the designs and the ease of use.  An easy project for Secondary students to complete from the Design Phase to Manufacture.

The Annual CAD Workshop was an excellent way to prepare for a new school year, and the Studica Canada Team was very pleased to be a part of the process.
