Youth Skills Day 2015The 2015 WorldSkills Competition in São Paulo, Brazil is just days away! In preparation for the largest vocational education and skills competition in the world, participants are fine tuning their work. Competitors in each country have been chosen to compete based on their hard work and demonstrated mastery of their skill. The WorldSkills organization spent these final weeks celebrating the dedication contestants have by hosting a World Youth Skills Day.

The World Youth Skills Day was celebrated on July 15, 2015 around the world. The event focuses global attention on the importance of skills and youth development as it benefits local economies and communities. Simon Bartley, WorldSkills President, launched a campaign for the event, asking WorldSkills competitors around the world to share a “Day in the Life” of a young skilled professional. Winner of the public campaign, Ana Vashadze – a competitor in floristry from Tbilisi, Georgia, stated, “World Youth Skills Day has become a very important day in my life, as this day is connected to my first success outside the borders of my country, and it will become the day of motivation and inspiration for generations to come.” [1]

WorldSkills Mobile Robotics Teams Finalize Designs

mobile roboticsAs WorldSkills teams around the world shared their experiences preparing for the WorldSkills competition, many of them were also finalizing their plans for the big day. Mobile Robotics teams weighed in on a lot of their goals leading up to São Paulo. Using Studica’s official WorldSkills Mobile Robotics Component Collection, many of the teams are finalizing their designs as they head into the competition.

The Mobile Robotics team from Canada is coming off a big win from the WorldSkills Exhibition match in the Netherlands, where they took the second place. This team will go on to represent Canada in the 2015 WorldSkills competition. After countless hours in perfecting their robotic design, the Canadian team is ready and confident.

The Malaysian team also feels positive about its chances to take home gold. The Human Resources Ministry Department of Skills Development director, Dr. Pang Chau Leong, stated, “We are not far from being the best of the best…It may be tough but we would still like to bring back the first gold for Malaysia.” Malaysia took home nine Medallion of Excellence awards two years ago in the last WorldSkills Competition, in Leipzig, Germany.

Team Singapore is betting on a flexible robotic design to help them win the competition. The pair of graduates from Nanyang Polytechnic’s (NYP) were winners in their field last year at WorldSkills Singapore, the regional competition.

As more and more teams share their experiences preparing for the WorldSkills Mobile Robotics Competition, it is definitely shaping up to be a tight match. These young students will be using the WorldSkills Mobile Robotics Component Collection to construct their own robot, which will then be asked to fulfill three different tasks. Take a look at some of the robotic components they’ll be using or build your own robotic creations using the same materials as WorldSkills competitors.

WorldSkills Promotes Both Life and Career Skills

‪#‎WYSD2015 caught on throughout social media outlets, marking the first annual WorldSkills Youth Day as a huge success. WorldSkills challenges, like the Mobile Robotics Competition, help students bridge the skills gap that leads to employment. However, it also emphasizes the need to connect life skills and career skills in tangible, comprehensive objectives that will help boost local and global industries. As the youth of the world currently represents a sixth of the world’s population, organizations are coming together to support the needs and interests of young people around the globe.

Studica is proud to work with the WorldSkills organization as it supports young professionals in pursuing their career goals. We wish everyone participating in the 2015 WorldSkills Competition in São Paulo, Brazil good luck!
