Basic Infant Care Curriculum Overview:
• 13 hour course, comprised of 15 lessons in three units
• The important role of a caregiver
• Techniques for proper infant care skills
• Health, Safety and Emergency procedures
Goal: For Students to gain knowledge and skills to confidently care for young infants and toddlers.
Healthy Choices: Relationships, Sexuality and Family Planning Overview:
• 14 hour course, comprised of 17 lessons in three units.
• Proven lasting learning experience that increases knowledge, changes attitudes and has measurable impact on behaviour
• Improving self-esteem, handling pressure and using good communication skills
• Male and Female reproductive systems, fertilization, conception, prenatal development and the birthing process.
• Abstinence, contraception, pregnancy risk and STIs
Goal: Help Students realise the importance of waiting to engage in sexual activity and thereby delaying becoming a parent until they are emotionally, financially, psychologically and socially ready. To introduce the importance and variety of skills needed in caring for an infant.
Parenting: A Guide to Parenting Skills for Life Overview:
• Twelve 45-minute lessons, as well as pre- and post-tests.
• Helps Students learn about the stages of development throughout a child’s lifespan
• Health and safety issues for infants and toddlers
• Ideas for education and play
• Stages of trust and brain development of an infant
• Variety of parenting styles used and their impact on a child
• Techniques for nurturing, recreation, language improvements and other related topics
• Financial aspects of raising a family
Goal: Help Students understand the complex nature of child development and the important role that parents play in the healthy development of their child.
