Siemens Engineering Design Curriculum

Siemens Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is providing this course at no cost for the curriculum, no cost for the Siemens Solid Edge design software, and no cost for the “Siemens online academy”.

We created the framework for the curriculum with the intent of empowering students to develop their own solutions to the problem presented in each project. The use of project/problem based learning is the best approach to prepare students for what careers will demand in the future. There is less emphasis on the mastery of procedures and more expectation for original thinking, collaboration among team members, and innovation by students. It’s good when there is more than one right answer.

The course can be used as a stand-alone full year course or taught in a semester double period block schedule. It is a great foundation to the SREB Advanced Career program or any other similar type program.

The Siemens Engineering Design Curriculum is best accomplished with a computer available for each student. A laptop is an optimal solution providing students the flexibility to work in team design situations, conduct research and create design documentation and reports. Laptops will also allow for room reconfiguration when necessary. This course utilizes state of the art 3D design software. These computers need extra RAM to function effectively. The specifications below should run the software for the course for several years. The courses that utilize a 3D solid modeling program should have a video card capable of 32bit video.

Processor: Intel i5 or equivalent at minimum

RAM: 8 to 32Gig RAM for 3D modeling and rendering

Hard Drive: 500 Gig + Hard Drive minimum

Video Card:

  • For 3D Solid Modeling graphics must support True Color Depth.
  • Screen Resolution should be 1280 x 1024 or higher.
  • A video card is recommended

Optical Drive: DVD-ROM Drive/optional for software installation

Operating System: Windows 10 Professional 64 bit operating system or Apple MacBook Pro with Bootcamp and Windows 10 installed on the partition

Mouse: A mouse with center wheel is the minimum input device.
