Self-Propelled Cart
Leonardo da Vinci designed the first self-propelled cart capable of moving without being pushed or pulled manually. The precursor to the modern automobile was most likely used during stage performances. It has three wheels and a steering column. The device moves via spring-loaded cams near the wheels. As the springs uncoil the stored power is transferred to the driving wheels using a set of gears.
