Renewal of your annual lease with subscription benefits on your Autodesk Education license does not automatically continue your existing license. Your currently installed license will time out and cease to operate if you do not follow through on one of the options below.

Once you renew your Autodesk Lease with Subscription you have immediate access to the 2012 product via download through the Autodesk Subscription Site. If you would like physical media shipped to you, Autodesk will send you the DVDs free of charge. Simply login to the Autodesk Subscription Site and request it. If you need assistance signing into your subscription account, downloading software, or managing your contracts there are some great tutorials available through the Autodesk site by clicking here.

To complete the set-up on your end , you have three options:

Option 1: If you have not already done so you can download, install and use the new 2012 version from the subscription site using your 2012 serial number.

Option 2: If you have previously downloaded and installed the 2012 version you still need to take some additional steps to avoid a time-out of your licenses.

For Network Installs:* The license file which currently resides on your server will expire and needs to be replaced. To obtain a new license file contact Autodesk Authorizations at 800-551-1490 or via email at [email protected] with your school name, 2012 serial number, quantity of seats, server name and Mac address. It is often helpful to email your old license file in with your request.

For Standalone Installs:** Your 2012 software will time out and cease to function. To extend its use you must generate new request codes from each workstation and then contact Autodesk Authorizations with those codes at 800-551-1490 or via email at [email protected] to get a new authorization code that you can plug in at each workstation. If you fail to do this prior to the time-out of your software and your software freezes, you will have to do a clean uninstall of the product and reinstall.

Option 3: In addition per your subscription benefits, you can opt to continue to run a currently installed version such as 2010 or 2011 but you will need to get a new serial number and a new license file or re-authorization to avoid a time-out. You cannot continue to run your currently installed 2011 or 2010 serial number, it will time out.

First, you will need to log into the Autodesk Subscription Site and request a previous version serial number. Once you have a new 2010 or 2011 serial number you can complete the process below.

For Network Installs:* The license file which currently resides on your server needs to be replaced. To Check Your Time Out Dates:

*Network licenses can be checked from LMTools or by browsing to the license file and   opening it with Notepad. Unless the license type is Permanent, there will be a timeout value embedded in the file that is usually the contract date of your existing license.

**For standalone license you can easily check to see if your software is set to timeout.

(Note: This only works if the software has not timed out.)

  • Open the Autodesk 201X Application.
  • Click the down arrow next to the question mark symbol in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  • This will give you a selection menu as shown; select ’About’

  • In the resulting window, select the Product Information button.
  • This product has no expiration date, most do.
  • Note the Update button that lets you change the serial number at the desktop. You may then activate your new serial number.
  • Standalone licenses that have timed out will require clean removal and re-installation of the product.
