make-money-onlineMany people starting out in their college careers are learning that you can make money simply selling the assets that you create. There are many outlets where artists and developers can sell anything from background images, to 2D and 3D characters, music, game templates and animations.

Many popular software companies for 3D animation and Game Development offer asset stores or marketplaces. Think brands such as Unity 3D, GameSalad, and Daz3D – they all have high revenue producing entities that anyone can take advantage of. If its already something you love to do – why not make money at the same time?

The Unity Asset Store

The best thing about the Unity Asset Store is that it can be easily accessed directly from an open project in Unity Pro. That means if someone is working on an environment and needs a chair, they can select a drop down menu and purchase it while still in the software. The item they purchase drops right into their project. Some developers have made $3,000 in their first 5 days on the asset store. Why not throw your hat in the ring? Software Plug-ins appear to be top sellers with the highest gross income. Unity has specific instructions for submitting to the asset store which can be found here.

The GameSalad Marketplace

Think of Unity as a bit too complex or scary to start with? Check out the GameSalad Marketplace. GameSalad is strictly a 2D development tool that uses drag and drop behaviors versus writing code. Because it is a 2D tool, the assets are less difficult to create. Even if you are a graphic artist, you can take advantage. GameSalad requires you to contact them and send samples of what you intend to submit. They can be reached at [email protected]

DAZ3d Shop

DAZ3d also has its own content sales portal simply known as “Shop” For those who use DAZ Studio you can sell your models as 2D images. Images average $7 each. Along with following DAZ3d’s criteria for entry, you also have to undergo a review process.
