At times in a student’s learning process it can become difficult to justify what they have learned with the real world objects or uses that surround us in life. “Why do we need to learn this” and “How will this help us in the future” are frequent questions asked in classroom around the world.

This year’s VEX robotics competition game, Sack Attack, involves ninety eight green Sacks and four gold Bonus Sacks, four Trough goals, four floor goals, and one high goal.

This year there was a VEX Robotics competition right around the corner from the Ontario office of Studica Limited. Rick Hansen Secondary School hosted the Mississauga VEX Robotics Championship on 25 February and with the help of teacher John Hobbins and his excellent group of volunteers the event was an outstanding success.

The basis behind these designs would seem to stem from the tasks that the robots are designed to perform. Tasks that, not unlike those performed by the tenderhearted and personified WALL-E, require three major components: Chassis & Drive System, Control Unit and Tool/Manipulator

The last two weeks have been very exciting in the Dufferin Peel District, with both the Elementary and Secondary Technical Skills Competitions being held with a pause in between for the FIRST Robotics Canada Greater Toronto Regional competition.

Robotics is a term used by everyone; thrown around and over emphasized. Students at Jean Vanier in the York Catholic District School Board, however, understand robotics and define it as success and forward movement. Teacher Andy Persad has taken a fledgling robotics program with Vex robotics and has already equipped his students with the skills that will make them the next robotics experts for NASA and ABB.
