WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 is just around the corner on August 11th-16th. The WorldSkills organization just released a Visitor’s Presentation video – giving competitors a peek at what could be in store for them. Competitors in the Mobile Robotics Competition will be expected to carry out two tasks over the course of four days using the provided robotic components.

As an official supplier and sponsor of the WorldSkills Mobile Robotics Competition, we are more than excited to see everything coming together. Robotics requires a range of skills and professional development that starts in the classroom, and leads to success in future career industries. Check out the elements of the upcoming competition.

WorldSkills Sao Paulo Mobile Robotics Visitor’s Presentation

All competition participants will be provided with exclusive use of a Court Evaluation Space to conduct their tasks. In the Visitor’s Presentation example, the tasks assigned to the robots involve filling customer orders in a future MERIAL Customer Service Department.

The first part of the competitions is to design and build your robot, using the official WorldSkills Mobile Robotics Component Collection provided by Studica. These robots will then be required to complete a series of tasks related to customer service, such as the following:

Task Level 1 – Deliver single product orders to three customers

Task Level 2 – Deliver double product orders to three customers

Task Level 3 – Deliver triple product orders to three customers

What You Need to Know to Compete

  • Robots have ten minutes to complete each task level.
  • Table, shelf, counter & pallet source locations are identified by grid patterns, bar code and tap lines.
  • Competitors operate their robots and object management system in autonomous control mode using National Instruments LabVIEW software.
  • The position of tables, shelves, and counter & pallet sources in the Court Evaluation Space will vary.
  • Evaluation takes place at the end of each task run, and is based on complete order accuracy and time taken to complete the task.
  • Competitors showcase their knowledge of the many technologies and skills used during their competition experience through a presentation made to a panel of Mobil Robotics experts.
  • 30% of the competition task is changed ‘on-site in São Paulo’ as a surprise element
  • Competitors will be told the court layout details at the start of each competition day. Court layouts will remain unchanged all day.
