Aerospace Engineering Midget Mustang Project
a very cool project that three students from San Jose State University are working on. They found a midget mustang airplane on campus that was marked to be scraped. Continue reading
Solving ‘Real World’ Problems with fischertechnik
We recently came across a rather interesting post on the www.fischertechnik.de website out of Germany which described how fischertechnik’s own sister company, fischer Automotive Systems, made use of this specialized construction system to create a simulation of their own facilities. How the Intersection of Technology and Education Can Attract Youth to Manufacturing
In my view, there are three main things that we can do to make manufacturing cool again. In a technology-drive world, I think coupling technology and education in a fun environment will be critical to reconnecting youth to manufacturing.

Computational Fluid Dynamics in Today’s Classroom
CFD uses numerical methods and algorithms to analyze problems involving fluid flow, i.e. liquids and gases and their interaction with solid objects. This process is the beginning steps in the analysis of vehicle wind disturbance patterns and building wind impact analyses. Continue reading
The Digital Prototyping Solution & Autodesk
Digital Prototyping brings together design data from all phases of the product development process into a single digital model in Inventor. This model can then be manipulated in many ways to test certain aspects of the model that would normally be handled with a physical prototype. Things such as stress analysis can be handled in Inventor. Or, you can bring your prototype into a Revit model to see how it will fit into a factory setting. Continue reading

Teaching Data Logging as a Process
Data Logging is happening in each of the above examples. Traffic intersections log the number of vehicles travelling in each direction as well as the numbers of vehicles at each light interval. Manufacturing systems log every aspect of the manufacturing process. Shippers monitor the temperature and other environmental conditions of their cargo and the humidity is often considered in long term storage solutions. Continue reading
