Chief Architect is a leader in producing easy to use, intuitive architectural home design software. With the latest release of version X8, users can explore new features and tools to master 3D design as they create their dream homes. Builders, designers, architects and DIY hobbyists are always amazed over Chief Architect’s comprehensive workflow and the precision of the end results.
Chief Architect X8 is incredible for schools and students interested in architectural design and residential building. This program helps students learn all aspects of residential and lighting design without the time-consuming task of learning how complicated software works.
Building Architects in the Classroom
We know how important it is for teachers to adopt programs that support learning, rather than simply performing specific design tasks. Chief Architect helps students understand what each step in the design and construction entails. As students draw walls and place smart architectural objects, the program creates a detailed 3D model, generates a material list, and helps produce construction documents. These documents include site plans, framing plans, section details and even elevations.
Using Chief Architect X8 software in the classroom or at home allows students to obtain technical skills relevant to careers in architecture, CAD engineering, construction and more. Boost your design portfolio with quality designs and professional documentation to support your creations.

Editing & Productivity
Display Shadows on Elevations – turn on “Shadows” in elevation and section views to display lighting effects and shadows for overhangs and other architectural elements.
Perspective Layout Views – create perspective views and send them to a layout. This feature allows you to retain the view’s link to the plan, easily transition to camera view and update it to the layout.
Live & Color Layouts – send sections and elevations in color to Layout, including technical illustration and watercolor. Live Layouts can automatically update simultaneously with your model updates.
3D Rendering & Navigation
Paint One Wall – quickly change the material on the surface of a single wall in a room.
3D Navigation is Immensely Improved. As you navigate in 3D, the camera follows your movement.
3D Mouse Support – use a 3Dconnexion mouse as your input device to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate camera views.
Schedule & Dimension Features
Framing Schedules – create a schedule with labels and callouts for framing members; quickly reference sizes and materials for different framing members. Create schedules that reference Deck Framing only.
Materials Lists – swap between reporting styles for framing: Lineal, Cut and Buy Lists.
Curved Beams – beams created under curved roofs or ceiling planes will generate beams that match the arc of the curve.
