Since it is the 50th Anniversary of the James Bond franchise, we thought it would be fun to post this blog on how you can become your own 007 by creating high tech spy devices. The folks over at K-12 labs release this awesome video on how to create a laser listener with a NI myDAQ, NI myDAQ  Protoboard, NI LabVIEW Software, an Op-amp (e.g.LM431), a laser pointer, and a photo-diode.

The Laser Listener, invented by the Soviet Leon Theremin in the 1940’s was said to be the ultimate spy device.  This device could detect sound from a nearby reflective surface by reading the vibrations caused by the sound. This device has been rumored to be used by the KGB to spy on US, British, and French embassies in Moscow.

Engage your students with this awesome lesson plan found at K-12 Lab.  For more information on National Instruments academic products visit www.studica.com.
