NSTA16 ConferenceThe National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) conference is just around the corner. This year’s spring conference will focus on the latest science content, teaching strategies and ongoing research. This is a uniquely collaborative experience, where science educators and professionals from around the country come together to share ideas, practices and the performance of technology in the classroom.

Last year’s NSTA conference highlighted the concern many educators had about implementing the Next Generation Science Standards. From elementary classrooms to high school, these standards offer teachers new ways to focus on analytical thinking and student engagement.

Take Advantage of Everything NSTA

Annual NSTA ConferenceThe annual NSTA conference is an important event in education. This is one of the few conferences where experts in various scientific fields come face to face with educators responsible for supporting the next generation of scientists, engineers and other STEM professionals. It’s an opportunity for educational administrators and decision makers to get a realistic understanding of the skills needed to be successful in STEM industries.

There’s certainly a lot to see and very little time, so we’ve highlighted just some of the events we think will have a positive impact on your NSTA visit. Please make sure to review the official NSTA Preview for a more in-depth look at this year’s events schedule.

Elementary Extravaganza
Many leaders in STEM-related industries have emphasized the importance of introducing science and technology concepts as soon as possible. This event hosts over 100 presenters. It focuses on hands-on activities, awards and grant programs available to implement STEM education in elementary classrooms.

First-Timers’ Session
This presentation is great for those going to the NSTA spring conference for the first time, or for those that haven’t attended in some years. You’re invited to join the NSTA Board and Council members and get tips on navigating and making the most of the amazing opportunities available at NSTA 2016.

NGSS@NSTA
There are two special events at NSTA 2016 that specifically focus on how to apply Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in the classroom.

  • The NGSS@NSTA forum has several important presentations that discuss the successes of three-dimensional standards and adapting an engaging curriculum.
  • NGSS@NSTA Share-a-Thon also offers great tips and tools to implement new standards from NSTA’s NGSS Curators, NGSS writers, and other education experts.

These are just some of the incredible events NSTA attendees can look forward to. Of course, attending some of the key speaker presentation is a must. Tyraine Ragsdale, Grandmaster of Science and President, Grand Hank Productions, Inc., will discuss how to “energize science” with hip-hop music and kinesthetic learning. Bill Nye, well-known for the beloved show Bill Nye the Science Guy®, will cover scientific efforts to locate ice and rocks in space that pose a threat to Earth’s atmosphere and move them out of the way. This essentially saves the lives of earthlings and enriches communities with technological advances.

We look forward to these and so many other presentations at NSTA 2016. It is important to register as soon as possible! Visit the NSTA online registration page and register today, if you haven’t already.
