AI is a scorching topic these days. From ChatGPT to Bard, it is likely that you have been hearing about artificial intelligence everywhere. This technology is becoming increasingly important in industry, education, and research. To visualize machine learning, neural networks, and artificial intelligence networks, fischertechnik has released a new training model. The Quality Control with AI model is a powerful addition to the impressive catalog of automation and simulation models available from fischertechnik.

Quality Control with AI modelBy combining practices and theory, this training model provides a sustainable learning experience for visualizing the complex topic that is artificial intelligence. With this simulation model, you can even create your own AI applications. You have the option to create these applications using Python. To assist you, an example project is provided. This model is currently only available in a 9V version. A 24V version is planned, but we don’t expect it until the fall of 2023 at the earliest. This model includes the TXT 4.0 controller, a USB camera, an encoder motor, a compressor, workpieces, and more. View all components.

How Does It Work?

The structure of the sorting line with the AI model is as follows. This training model is equipped with a sorting line for 3 colors of workpieces. They represent three machining features; gouges, bore, and bore & gouges. Different error patterns are also included. The error patterns include bore missing, bore out-of-bound, gouges partially or completely missing, as well as cracks in the workpiece.  The machining and defect information is simulated with notations on the workpieces. The workpieces are then scanned by the camera and reviewed by the trained AI to classify them. Depending on their classification, they are then sorted into 4 different bay areas.

Quality Control w/AI - 9V versionThe artificial intelligence for this model is implemented using Tensorflow and is run on the TXT 4.0 controller (included with the model). The sorting system’s sequence control is implemented in the ROBO Pro Coding programming environment and in Python.
