Language Tree Online aligns to WIDA Standards
Digital Lessons Align with WIDA 2020 Standards
If you are a school or district in a WIDA state, you'll be happy to learn that the Language Tree Online ELD programs are closely aligned with the WIDA ELP standards. The Language Tree Online programs address some of the main themes in the WIDA 2020 standards, such as:
- Equity of Opportunity and Access: This is achieved using culturally-relevant pedagogy, scaffolded grade-appropriate content, and opportunities for collaborative listening, writing, and speaking.
- Integration of Content and Language with language lessons that integrate content across a variety of disciplines (i.e. Sciences, Social Studies, Math) and encourage multi-modal communication.
- Functional Approach to Language Development by teaching English learners how to use language for a specific audience and for a specific purpose.
ESOL Curriculum that is Grade and Level-Appropriate
The Language Tree Online ESOL curriculum is designed specifically on the needs of multi-lingual learners in grades 6-12. It offers realistic peer-to-peer interactions and topics that are relevant to teenage learners.
There are two programs available that cover language development expectations across the proficiency levels.
- ELD Level 1 is designed for beginner level and Newcomer English learners that have 0-24 months of ESOL study (see WIDA Prime V2 Correlation)
- ELD Level 2 is designed for intermediate level learners who have 2+ years of study and LTELs who are struggling to achieve re-designation
New WIDA 2020 proficiency levels reflect the idea that language development is not linear. Students will have strengths and weaknesses in different proficiency areas. The Language Tree Online comprehensive (combined Level 1 & Level 2) program gives educators the flexibility to assign relevant modules to students to support individualized instruction.
Note: They do not offer a Level 3 because advanced learners in Levels 5-6 are at the point of re-designation.
